Trust has always ranked high on my list of values. This translates into filling my world with people I trust and wanting them to feel that I am completely trustworthy.
After reading Stephen R. Covey's book "The Speed of Trust" recently, my definition of trust has an additional dimension.
In his book the author deals with trust in the business world and social/family world. But the most powerful direction he points to is the impact of trusting yourself. If you tell yourself you are going to do something, you must follow through with it or the promises you make to yourself become meaningless.
One example: "I'm not going to be late anymore". The intention is good. The promise lasts for a couple of days. And then the phone rings at the time of leaving and the curiosity of the moment blows the great intention. Chances are that once it's blown once, the entire resolve is destroyed.
When this happens regularly, the result is a loss of trust in self. You lose the belief in your personal word. Change becomes even more challenging than ever before. When this happens repeatedly, self promises become hollow and self esteem suffers. It's a huge cost.
So my hope for you is that you make self promises sparingly and take them very seriously. Be a man or woman of your word, especially to the most important person in your life.
If you need some help following through, try a coaching sample. Through coaching you'll learn to recognize what is holding you back and come to realize how important you are when it comes to fulfilling your own promises.
2: You can make miracles
The last thing I feel like doing at 5:30 p.m. is a conditioning exercise class. The music is brutal, I dislike the type of exercise and I'm generally at my lowest energy level at 5:00 p.m. when I need to get ready to go. But I go. Not going is not an option (I have paid for these classes and I hate waste!). The class is hugely challenging. I work very hard and cannot always keep up with the better conditioned (and sometimes 30 years younger) others in the class but I do put a big effort into it. So here's the miracle part: I start with a miniscule amount of energy, I use up a ton of energy and then somehow by the end of the class and for the remainder of the evening I'm bursting with energy! As a former math teacher, something doesn't add up. It simply must be a miracle!
I promise you - this miracle will work for you as well!

The 12 WEEK COACHING WEIGHT LOSS GROUP offers unlimited support and the opportunity to examine and then change non-beneficial behaviours.
