What's in it for you? A connection, some challenges, a few questions to
encourage you to simply reflect about how you currently live your life versus how you want
to live your life. Feel free to share your thoughts with me; I'd love to hear from
you. This is an invitation to focus on where you'd like to change and grow.
IN THIS ISSUE:
1. PERSONAL LIFE COACHING:
2. FOOD FOR THOUGHT AND THOUGHTS ON FOOD OR WEIGHT:
Just 21 days
3. THOUGHTS FROM MY SWING:
Think about your well-being. How do you enhance it? How do you define it? How do you stabilize it? What are the elements that add up to it? Answers vary and here's one way of breaking it down:
- life satisfaction
- sense of control over life
- physical health
- emotional health
One can often engage in thoughts and programs and various activities which will increase any of the above elements. That said, the activity which will likely have a positive effect on all of the above is volunteering. I can picture your eyes rolling back in your head as you think about how you're already juggling time and energy and "how can I even suggest adding one more thing?"!!! But if we visit this calmly you might just be surprized.
Volunteer work has many different faces in terms of the nature and the amount of the donated time. It's not all about feeding the elderly on a daily or weekly basis! I remember a former student, satisfying the 30-volunteer-hours requirement for high school graduation, repairing donated bikes for Good Will for resale. He was in his element!!!
Many organizations are frequently on the lookout for help with a broad spectrum of work to be done - you can almost write your own ticket. It's truly important to do what you like.
And please don't minimize the profound effect that very occasional volunteering can have! You can knit hats for soldiers (in the comfort of your own home), collect for the Cancer Society on your street annually, help in the planning or ticket sales for a fund raising event, drive needy individuals to medical appointments, assist at a charity garage sale, help a newcomer with his/her language skills... and the list goes on.
Or maybe volunteering is not at all for you at this point in your life. Maybe there will be time in the future. It's just something to think about!

2: Just 21 days
Research shows that realistic lifestyle changes take about 21 days to become a habit.
If you're still struggling to lose weight and are fighting with any damned diet, whatever you call it, it's time for you to completely change your approach. Here's how.
It might sound easy but it's often not - since something from your depths has been telling you for a very long time that the extra weight is a benefit - somehow protecting you!
- Take an overview of how you eat. Identify the habits that are helping you fail. Second helping of meat or dessert or potatoes? Fried foods? Skipping breakfast? Drinking your calories? Frequent creamy sauces? Junk food snacks? Fast food meals? Or maybe it's one not mentioned.
- Choose one - only one at a time. Change it so that it serves you! Keep everything else the same and focus on the one new way of being for 21 days. If you want to change a life-long habit, about 21 days should do the trick... but only if you WANT to change.
- Then choose another self-sabotaging habit and replace it with a self-serving one, while maintaining the previous change, for the next 21 days.
- And so it goes until you've changed a lifetime of routines that force you to keep that unwanted weight on.
I'd be thrilled to help you work through those inner voices.

3: 5 words
At a meeting of wonderful women this morning, we did an exercise that might have brought awareness to some of the participants - and here it is:
Share 5 words that indicate what you want for yourself this summer.
Here are some of the words that came up... fun, relaxation, reading, family, travel, Scrabble, sunshine, sailing, hugs, and the list goes on. It was a good exercise to get one's thinking started. Unfortunately, we didn't have time for the next step. "How will you make it happen?"
I'd love to hear your answers. firstname.lastname@example.org
Wishing you what you wish for yourself.
