1: What's holding women back?
Yesterday I attended a breafast meeting with a panel discussion featuring 3 highly successful female entrepreneurs, coming from a variety of backgrounds and businesses. They were each very bright, very human and wonderfully articulate. Thought you might be interested to hear their answers to the question "what holds women back from creating their own own great business?" and here's a summary:
Rereading this list makes we wonder how the answers might be different if the question was "What's holding women back from creating their best lives?"
- too much worry about image
- negotiation replacing control
- too much holding back ideas
- too dependent on an advocate
- fear of failure
- small thinking
Maybe not all that different.

Part 2: Dancing while brushing your teeth
I was chatting with a fit-looking woman in my Muscle Works class and she shared one of her secrets. Here it is: she does squats while she brushes her teeth. Then I heard Dr. Oz, on TV, suggest dancing while brushing your teeth for 2 minutes twice/day. So I did the math: if you follow Dr. Oz's suggestion, 4 minutes/day burns about 20 calories, which means about 2 lbs./year. Where else can you "burn baby burn"?
3: Fable of the Porcupines - don't know who to thank for this one
The Moral: The best relationship is not the one that brings together perfect people but one in which each individual learns to bypass the imperfections of others and appreciate the special qualities that each of us has.
- coldest winter ever: animals dying
- porcupines decided to huddle and protect themselves by sharing body heat
- but the prickly quills hurt each other
- so they distanced themselves from each other: alone and frozen, some died
- They had a choice to make: avoid the quills and disappear from earth or huddle and learn to accept the prickles.
- Wisely, they chose to huddle, shared the heat and learned to live with the prickles and so they survived
